The Fourth Edition of the Moving Chronicles

Moving Chronicles

I have moved several times in my life. Mostly recently but it is always a pain. I am lucky enough to move for the fourth time in the last four years. When I was growing up, I moved three times where I actually knew what was happening. There were a couple of moves where I wasn’t aware of, I was too young. In the last four years I have gone over the count I experienced in my first 22 years of life. I remember most of those moves with the childhood house were always tough. Moving all the stuff of four people plus a hoarder of a mother it was always extremely tough. Moving one-bedroom apartments weren’t too bad. It is just a rough day. Moving the family house it would take multiple days. My parents also never believed in moving trucks so we would be driving to and from the new house with a truck and a van and moved as much as we could and then leave to unload and load it back. Back and forth back and forth. It was a fun time. The moving and sodding a house were two of the worst jobs we did back in my early days. Now, one trip is usually all it takes. It just takes a while to get that done.

I have now cleaned the new house, fixed a couple of items, a sink plug kept getting stuck, so I had to unstick it. There have been a few other items to take care of but now, it is ready to move into. The locks have been changed, the garage door opener has been reprogrammed, everything is ready for our move next week. We have since worked on a few things, getting everything ready and packed, so it will be fairly easy for everyone to come in and be out in hopefully less than three hours. I want this to be the most painless moving process for everyone else. Luckily, I woke up pretty excited to get everything done this weekend so we were able to take a couple of loads already which will make this coming Sunday as painless as possible. Rent a U-Haul, buy a few pizzas and drinks, everyone leaves happy. I still need to rent the U-Haul but there are a few items we need to nail down. Are we renting the trailer version or the box truck? Which is crazy because we never would have thought this would be a question but with how loads the last two days it is very possible to go as cheap as possible.

The cost of the truck has stayed relatively consistent. $19.95 plus gas, and $0.99 a mile. Should be over $100 but not much more than that for the smallest uhaul box truck. I love how this decision has gone from the 15’ U-Haul or 10’ U-Haul to the 10’ U-Haul or the trailer. The trailer is around $30 for the day.

Moving is always a headache but with family it makes it a little bit better. Makes the pain more tolerable. Even though I didn’t mind the up and down the three flights of stairs with the large tubs I was moving during our light moving days, the day is coming where I have to lift couches down the three flights of stairs which will probably be a much worse day.

Fingers crossed this will be our last move for several years. Moving four times in four years has not been the most fun. I am blessed to be moving into better places each time. One was in a very bad part of town, one was 700 square feet, and one was 1100 square feet. The next move is to 1400 square feet! Wow! It is also the first home where I will be paying down the mortgage instead of throwing my money in the fire of rent. My $1300 a month will be an investment rather than just surviving. It makes me happy.
